CatSci Ltd has extensive knowledge and expertise in a wide range of chemistry from discovery support through to full scale manufacturing and life-cycle management.<\/p>\n<p>The role will focus on the development, validation and preparation of catalysis kits, known to us as CatKits. A CatKit is a self-contained screening kit which enables a chemist without expert knowledge to test their own compounds against a range of catalysts, and under a range of reaction conditions (eg base, solvent, temperature). This project will include the manufacture of CatKits to existing specifications as well as the identification, research, development and testing of novel CatKits to meet commercial and industry demands.<\/p>\n<p>Internship sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry.<\/p>\n<p><em>Location:<\/em><em> office base in Cardiff, UK<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Contract: Temporary for 6 months. Extension dependent on business needs<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Compensation:<\/em><em> \u00a321-24K, 25 days annual leave, company benefits<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Start date: February 2019, negotiable<\/em><\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Reporting directly to a Senior Scientist, your responsibilities will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking a lead on the CatKit project<\/li>\n<li>The manufacture of CatKits to existing specifications<\/li>\n<li>Novel research to identify, develop and test CatKits for new target reactions<\/li>\n<li>Validation of CatKit specifications to enable quality control<\/li>\n<li>Operating\u00a0in the controlled environment of\u00a0a\u00a0glovebox\u00a0to handle\u00a0and work with air\u00a0and moisture sensitive materials<\/li>\n<li>Gaining an awareness of commercial and industry demands to shape the direction of the project and enhance its success<\/li>\n<li>Involvement in developing the CatKit customer base, to increase commercial demand<\/li>\n<li>The management of resources to supply CatKits according to customer orders, meeting the requirements of time, quantity and specification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Knowledge and Skills<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The ideal candidate will have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A BSc or Masters\u2019 degree with an emphasis on organic or inorganic chemistry<\/li>\n<li>A basic knowledge and understanding of organic synthesis<\/li>\n<li>Some laboratory experience of synthetic chemistry techniques<\/li>\n<li>Some knowledge and experience of analytical techniques such as HPLC and NMR<\/li>\n<li>Good time and task management capabilities<\/li>\n<li>The ability to record\u00a0and\u00a0report\u00a0on\u00a0work to high\u00a0levels\u00a0of\u00a0precision and accuracy<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in the use of information technology including Excel<\/li>\n<li>The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to solve problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Person Specification<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The ideal candidate will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-motivated and results-oriented with a clear focus on delivery of project objectives<\/li>\n<li>Keen for challenging new experiences, new learning and scientific accountability<\/li>\n<li>Desire to learn\u00a0the science of chemical process development<\/li>\n<li>Preference for a methodical and thorough way of working, with good attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Able to think creatively\u00a0and show initiative\u00a0to\u00a0solve problems, develop\u00a0new\u00a0ideas and capitalise on opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Good communicator, using written and verbal media<\/li>\n<li>Interested in being exposed to the commercial aspects of working in industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>To
